Rudolf Sagmeister

Born in 1957 in Lochau, Vorarlberg. Studied art history, social and economic history, and psychology at the universities of Vienna and Hamburg. In 1992, he began work on the conceptual design, planning, and construction of the Kunsthaus Bregenz (KUB). Since 1997, he has curated numerous exhibitions and catalogues at the KUB, covering works by a range of artists, including Rudolf Wacker, Edmund Kalb, Anton Frommelt, Per Kirkeby, Kunst in der Stadt 1–4, Wolfgang Laib, Olafur Eliasson, Doug Aitken, Douglas Gordon, Gary Hume, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Santiago Sierra, Hans Schabus, Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, Gelitin, Tino Sehgal, Cindy Sherman, Maurizio Cattelan, Carsten Höller, Jenny Holzer, Tony Oursler, Roni Horn, Cosima von Bonin, Candice Breitz, Harun Farocki, Ai Weiwei, and VALIE EXPORT. In 1988, working together with Kathleen Sagmeister, he published Holzbaukunst in Vorarlberg: Handwerk & Zunft, Tradition & Gegenwart.
