Walter Fink

Born in 1945 in Bregenz, Vorarlberg. Attended primary school and lower secondary school in Bregenz and took part in various educational programmes. After doing an apprenticeship as a typesetter, he went to the Bundesgymnasium für Berufstätige in Innsbruck, an academically oriented secondary school for working people, and passed his school-leaving certificate (Matura) in 1971. This period was interspersed with jobs as a typesetter, ski instructor, chauffeur, and tourist guide. He married Cilli Einsle in 1968 and they had two children together (Susanne, 1969, and Kaspar, 1978). He began working as a freelance journalist in 1971 (Kurier, Neue Vorarlberger Tageszeitung, ORF). Parallel to his work, he studied art history, German, and philosophy, and earned his doctorate in 1988. From 1988 until his retirement in 2007, he was editor-in-chief of ORF Vorarlberg's arts programmes. Since 1992, he has been a columnist for Vorarlberger Nachrichten.
