Bernhard Marte, born in 1966 in Dornbirn, Vorarlberg. Stefan Marte, born in 1967 in Dornbirn, Vorarlberg. The brothers Bernhard and Stefan Marte each have a degree in architecture from the University of Innsbruck and gained their diplomas under Othmar Barth and Rainer Köberl. In 1993, they set up an office together in Weiler, a small municipality in the Rhine Valley in Vorarlberg. They have both sat on the board of the Vorarlberg branch of the Central Association of Architects, and since 2005 Stefan Marte has been president of the vai, the Vorarlberg Architecture Institute.
Numerous competition successes and accolades quickly proved the worth of what has become a multi-award-winning firm. In 2011, they came top of the rankings in an online competition rating offices across Europe. Besides a host of smaller, idiosyncratic private structures, they can also boast a body of work that includes a formidable series of prize-winning buildings in the fields of culture, education, and healthcare, as well as infrastructure and bridge construction projects.
