Hermann Kaufmann

Born in 1955 into a family of carpenters in Reuthe, Vorarlberg. Did his degree at the University of Innsbruck and the Vienna University of Technology, where he was strongly influenced by his teacher Professor Ernst Hiesmayr. In 1983, he established his own office in Schwarzach. He began his teaching career as a visiting lecturer at the Liechtenstein School of Engineering, the Graz University of Technology, and the University of Ljubljana. In 2002, he was made a professor in the Department of Timber Construction at the Technische Universität München. The focus of his work is on the development of contemporary timber architecture.
